Big Orn, I hear ya. This vibration has existed since I bough the truck. Last year they claimed it was the tires, then the wheels. They replaced both and it made no difference. During the summer, I run my 35" mud terrains and really don't notice the issue, probably due to the inherent vibration in running the mud terrains. With the stock tires, it drives me nuts.

I hate to rip on the dealer, since they really do treat me extremely well. They actually had the Ford field service engineer out working on my truck with them. I'm getting pretty frustrated though. Like you said, it is darned obvious that the problems is with the driveshaft in some way. My view - put a new one on, replace the whole thing, just fix it!!!

High Ho,

What tires and wheels to you have on your truck? I have the BFG Rugged trails and the stock steel/chrome wheels. I don't notice this vibration when I run my 35" BFGs and alum wheels. Could just be due to the fact that the Mud Terrains have some inherent vibration to them anyway.

Also, the grease called for is a blue teflon available from FMC but others have used other greases that work OK.

Grease what?

Big Orn and mjs,
Have they fixed all of your vibration issues? I'm still having them on my 1999 Superduty after replacing various parts (~$1500 worth) and rebalancing the drive-shaft!

FORD: 1999-2005 F-Super Duty

ISSUE:
Some 1999-2005 Super Duty F-Series may exhibit excessive drive-away shudder or vibration, under moderate to heavy acceleration from a stop. This may be due to driveline angle.

ACTION:
Shim the center carrier bracket downward to correct the condition. Refer to the following Service Procedure.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

When shimming the center carrier bracket, a maximum of three (3) 1/4 inch shims may be used (EOTZ-4A209-A). When refastening the carrier bracket use1. bolt (56564-S2). A 7/16 x 14 grade 5 bolt may be substituted providing that it extends at least 3 threads past the nut. Use Motorcraft Threadlock 262 (TA-26), and torque bolts to 46 lb-ft (62 N-m).

NOTE: IF THE VEHICLE IS NORMALLY LOADED, ROAD TESTS WILL NEED TO BE PERFORMED WITH THE VEHICLE LOADED.

Before beginning the repair, road test the vehicle to gain a feel for the harshness of the shudder/vibration.
Install one (1) shim, (DO NOT use Threadlock on the bolts at this point), re-road test vehicle.
If condition is corrected, apply Threadlock and torque bolts as directed above. Return the vehicle to the customer.
If condition is not corrected, re-perform Step 2 (to a maximum of three (3) shims) and reevaluate vehicle.
NOTE: IF THE CONDITION IS STILL NOT CORRECTED AFTER INSTALLING A MAXIMUM OF THREE (3) SHIMS, REFER TO WORKSHOP MANUAL SECTION 205-00 FOR FURTHER DIAGNOSTICS.

slc10844,
How does this suddenly happen after a truck has a few miles on it (75,000 in my case)? The problems you all are describing sound exactly like mine! I've replaced everything but the kitchen sink on my '99 Superduty supercab with very little results. I'm definitely going to try your suggestion. Thanks, very much.

Don't have the answer there. Mounts and springs sag over time and maybe enough to develope your vibration. My truck has a vibration only on moderate to heavy acceleration, and it has a one piece driveshaft. The dealer replaced the driveshaft, which helped a little, but the vibration is still there between 15 and 25 mph. If you haven't tried shimming the driveshaft its worth a try. I don't think the parts are that expensive. If it helps at least you know its probably driveshaft related.

Sorry, I actually forgot to post the outcome. After 2 years of fighting with the dealer. They finally fixed the vibration. It turned out to be a bad driveshaft. They put a hose clamp on the drive shaft and turned it ( change the balance) and they were able to vary the vibration. They ordered a new driveshaft and the truck runs smooth as silk now.

The bad part is that shortly after, I sold the truck to my buddy and bought an 05 F150 Crew. That was a big mistake! Not happy with it at all.

mjs finally had the dealer to check the driveline's balance and got it fixed.

mjs,
Thanks for the feedback. Sorry to hear that you got a raw deal, though. Maybe you need to trade that baby truck in for another SD?

Big T,
Sometimes you can't balance the driveshaft - in other words - you can't make it run true. Sometimes you just have to break down and get another one.

Big Orn,

You are correct. There is another Superduty in my future. I think we may get rid of my wife's Explorer, give her the F150 and I will get another Superduty. I thought I would be satisfied with the new F150, but I am not. It looks great, and rides very nice. Towing stinks and the 5.4 is gutless in my opinion. Sure miss that V10. The bad part is that the gas mileage on the 150 is not much better than the V10. Chalk it up lessons learned I guess.

Great idea, mjs!

My wife said that she has ESP - she can see an F150 in her future. I asked her what she saw for me and she said, "You already have the best truck ever made!" I love that redneck woman!
