My service engine light came on after i replaced my plug wires because the person helping me switched 2 wires and i got them switched back . Is the only way to get the light off is take it somewhere and hook it to a computer and have them reset it or is there a reset capability in the truck computer itself?
I should have known.... 2000 f150 4.2, it costs something like 25$ to hook it up to the computer at the shop and someone told me that there is a reset button on the computer somewhere and i didnt know?

Well, I did a little reading, and if the battery disconnect procedure doesn't work, go ahead and drive it normally for a few days. If you fixed the problem, the OBDII system will check it out, and if it thinks it's ok after 3 or 4 driving cycles, it will turn off the lamp itself.
ok thanks alot, if it doesnt turn off i will get back to you but where did you read this so maybe i will know where to look if i have another problem sometime?
i have driven the truck 5 or 6 times(if thats what you mean by driving cycles) and the light hasnt went off, when the truck backfired could that have ruined the O2 sensor or should i just keep driving it until it goes off?
Autozone or somebody won't read the codes for free? Check around at some of the parts stores, as I think some of them will read them for you. You need to find out what the code is, and then go from there. If it says bad oxygen sensor, then you will know for sure.
