3 speed column I.D.

3 speed column I.D.
Went to weld shop today to have column brackets swapped from 65 to the mid 70's column. Did not notice until i arrived the 65 has a notch, or opening just forward of the base, assume for the control arms. The later model did not. The top part of the 2 columns looked identical. Acquired both columns few years back. The 65 column was taken out of a 65 which i believe had a 3 speed. The later model column was purchased from a salvage yard attendant said would fit the 65 3 speed. At this point was not sure, had the shop shorten the 65 column and hopefully it is a 3 speed. Wonder if anyone has an idea what type of columns they are. The truck is at another location so don't have the original 3 speed column to compare to. Shop charged $40 which thought was reasonable. Considering my welding skill would have used that much up in gas. Also, is there any difference beween automatic transmission columns.

John, sounds like you are saying the later model column may be for an automatic. None of my reference material covers the later model trucks. Glad decided not to swap column bracket/mounts. Will I.D in the meantime perhaps can use down the road if decide to swap for c6.
