What's this noise?
I've been meaning to ask this for a while now... When I lock in the manual hubs on every Ford I have ever owned (Ranger, BII, F150) and drive around in 2HI I can hear a "Ping" "Ding" Clank, sounds like a hammer hitting a bell or like an old fashioned telephone ringing at about 40 mph, whatever coming from one or the other of the front wheels. Also there has always been a bad vibration driving in 2hi with the hubs locked. Is this likely a hub problem, Ujoints, axle, differential, transfer case, wheel bearings, ball joints? What's up? Like I said, This has happened on every Ford truck I have owned. The 4WD has always worked very well on them, but I always get that awful noise & vibration in 2hi. Just curious wether this is common or if I'm really that unlucky!
