91 f150 starting, key switch
The key switch turns easier than it should, but does not engage the starter when in the start position. The electrial switch is working the radio will play, and when the truck is in neutral I can cross the soleniod and the motor will crank with the key switch in the start position. I was thinking that something was broken in the linkage on the steering column.

Sounds like the lower actuator in the steering column broke. I have my steering column apart right now because mine was doing the exact same thing as yours. I picked up the replacement part Friday and am putting it in today. There have been other posts on this subject. I did a search and found exactly what I needed down to the instructions on how to replace the part. When I called the dealership about the part and gave them the part number the parts guy said "oh, we have LOTS of those"..... sounds like a common problem.

Do an advanced search of this forum by lower actuator or "Who knows about ignitions" and you should find it. I have a post or two on it and rernst has one also. I hear they even have this problem on trucks a lot newer than ours. If you have any questions after reading the posts just post back.
