F-250 start issue

Last weekend, I bought a new battery for my IHC. I took the one out of it (still good) to replace the old one in my 79 F250. I then used that truck quite a bit (it has been sitting for a while). Initialy, it started easy, then after each stop I made, I would get into the truck, turn the key and it sounded like it was dragging, then it would fire and run fine. Towards the end of my run, I made one last stop and and I turned the key. All I heard was a click (solenoid?) sound from under the hood. After bumping the key several times, the starter began slowly and the truck finally started. What is up? The new battery has more cranking amps than the old one, and that battery had no problem turning my International over. Is my starter giving up? I'm leaning that way since the problem progressivly worsened the longer the truck had been running. After it sat for several hours, the truck started fine. Thanks for your input.

Sounds like the alternator is not charging your battery. Check the voltage on the battery. If it is not close th 13 volts you prob just need an alternator. If it is then you prob have a bad starter. Sometimes when starters wear out they will get to the point they wont turn over no matter how much electricity you give them.
