Car dieing at stops

when My 1985, V-8 5.8 liter, stops some times it dies on me, however, most of the time it runs very well. From what I have researched on this site it seems like it could be the IAC or idle control valve. Where is the IAC valve and how should I fix this problem. i live in colorado where there are a lot of hills and as you know when the engine dies so does the power steering

I don't know who to trust besides you guys.
thanks a lot, Bigred24

The IAC is located on the upper intake on fuel injected engine. Someone posted a great picture recently showing the location. Do a search for IAC and the post should be listed. There is also a good post on how to clean the IAC. If I remember correctly, I asked the question.

A good cleaning with throttle body cleaner is just about all you can do other than replacing it. Unplug the wire connector and remove the bolts. Once you remove it, spray the inside until it runs clear. Then reinstall.

I think the 85 5.8L still has a carburetor, so it will not have an IAC. It may be time for an overhaul of the carb. Could be the float sticking, worn accelerator pump, or just need a new fuel filter.
