brake booster replacement

i have a 78 ranger f 250 4x4 and i've been told on here that by the sounds of my problem with my brake pedal then i need to replace my brake booster. i need to know how to take the old one off and if the booster off an 89 3/4 ton 4x4 will fit on my truck

For most boosters disconnect the rod to the brake pedal (bolt through the pedal arm), then remove the master cylinder (keep lines attached and just move out of the way). Then remove the 4 bolts holding it to the firewall. Most likely the '89 booster won't fit, but you could ask at a salvage yard or have a parts store check if the part numbers are the same.

When getting a new one, write down the numbers that are stamped into the booster body - there were several different ones used.
