This is In regards to the cable operated speedometer on the 87-91 trucks (in transfer case). I am in a big hurry and I need the answer to this question. I have looked through all my manuals and cannot find the answer. I need to take the speedometer's plastic "ring gear" off the shaft that is inside my transfer case. It's not the gear most people replace which is on the end of the cable (the "pinion gear"). This one is inside the rear extension housing (where the driveshaft goes into the TC's shaft splines). I need to remove this gear from the shaft. Can anyone tell me how? I'd like to do it without breaking it or damaging it, but I'm not sure if that is possible. Also, how does it go back onto the shaft?
I appologize that this really isn't in the correct forum, but I'm in trouble and need a quick answer badly (I need to finish this in a few hours). It's not a great excuse but sometimes ya gotta do what ya gotta do
.
Good luck.
