The engine in my 1981 F150 302 aod tranny is getting tired but worse yet is leaking oil everywere.
I am planning on replacing it but I am thinking of putting in a 351 instead of another 302.
How difficult will it be to replace the 302 with a 351,will any parts need to be changed or replaced for the 351,and is the difference in power between the 302 and 351 really worth it?
Jeff
The 351 will practically bolt right in, it will bolt to your tranny and your motor mounts, but your exhaust will need to be modified. I believe your exhaust manifolds will fit the 351, but due to the taller deck height, they will be a little further apart, requireing a new Y-pipe. You will need a complete 351, from intake to oil pan and the accessory mounting brackets, as these are different from a 302 to 351. It would be much simpler to rebuild or replace your current 302, but it you have the time and money, you can have more fun with a 351.

Thanks for replying!,I think I will take your advice to rebuild/replace the 302 as I am satisfied with the performance and reliability of it,by the way,it just turned over 312,000mi!
