I recently had replaced a head gasket in a ranger 4.OL after that I had some overheating problems. I fixed the overheating problems but I had to remove the alt. to get at the thermostat after I changed that I replaced the alt. and reconnected the negative battery cable and the fusable link on the relay melted so I reattached the wire and was driving it then it just quit running on the road I had all electrical still working but it wouldnt start? turns over fine. it has spark fuel system is working fine checked all fuses all wiring? can't figure out why it turns over but no start? I finally came down to thinking it might be the ICM ignition controle module. Is there any way I can test it first a new one I was quoted is $185.00 so I need to make sure thats it? otherwise I just don't get it? is there something I might be missing.
how can I test the ignition control module on a 93 ranger 4.OL V-6 I think it might be bad. I have spark, fuel, electrical, lights all work I don't get it can anyone help? these things are a little spendy so I want to make sure that it's not good by testing it but I really don't know how to test it so any help would be great thanks.
If it has spark, the module should be working. Did you ever do a compression check, just to make sure there are no issues with the new head gasket? How about a year and some other info that might help.
You need to pull anycode if you can. Also with these cpu controlled trucks you need fuel, spark and injector action. Listen to an injector with a stehoscope for the tell tell click or put a light across it and see if it is pulsing..or a little starting fluid in the throddle body to see it will fire.
