I have a 1995 F-150 with 6-bolt autolockers. My dad and I are in the process of replacing the front rotors and in order to do that we have to remove the hubs. When we put it all back together, what is the best thing to grease the hubs with. Is there a special grease for locker or can we use a reg. multi-purpose grease. Also, later on down the road, I want to replace the autos with manual hubs. Who makes the best, what do they cost, and how hard is it to chande out. Thanks
use regular axle grease SPARINGLY, lightly coat everything... too much and it wwill gum up the auto mechanisms inside. i would go ahead and swap them out as they prolly won't have much life in them.
a lot of ppl believe the Warns are the best but I personally have seen the new milemarkers outdo the warns on numerous occasions... esp on the 35 spline applications! i put a set on my PSD and would get them again!
you'll have to get a conversion kit so the conversion kit a the hubs will prolly run you no more then about $130 or so and that includes shipping and all. they are so easy to change.... i'd rather swap them out than change a fuse!
I have factory replacement hubs, and they do fine for me. They havent messed up yet, in other words. If they do, Ill go to milemarkers, but I dont run high hp numbers so I dont have too much to worry about. If you wheel hard and hace high hp then go ahead and spend the extra money on the warn or milemarkers, but otherwise factory manual hubs should be fine...
