I'm looking into upgrading my exhaust. I have a '96 F150 with the 300, and 2 cat-converters. I would like to keep it under $300 if possible. Like everyone else, I want sound, and power. But I still want a little back pressure. Should I hollow out my catalytic converters and then go with an aftermarket muffler? Or just stick with a cat-back system. I've also thought about installing a dual exhaust myself. I haven't made my way down to all the muffler shops yet. Just wanted some ideas so I figured I'd ask Y'all first. Maybe somebody out there with a straight six has the answer I need. Thanks

One way to go supercheap is to just use the cats with no mufflers. They actually sound pretty good, try the two cats y'd to a single 2 1/2" pipe.

I have the inline with duals and no cat although this may not be an option for you. I went with in house turbos and 2.5 inch aluminum piping with 3 inch chrome tips and it cost $180. I would not change it, I do not like the sound of a bee and love the sound of an 8 and am still happy with what I ended up with it is a happy median. Some people like the flowmasters also, good luck

Flowmasters are good too. I believe it's Flowtech that makes a kit I like called "sidemounts". The Muffler sits right behind the second cat, and then exits to duals in front of the rear wheels. It's a short system, which I like, but they don't seem to offer it for a std. cab longbed. I don't know. It's still a few months away.
