I went through this back in November and thought I had it fixed. I had bought a new relay (the one that mounts on the fenderwell) but that didn't fix it so I put the old one back on. I finally fixed the prob by cleaning the little wire attached to the starter (solenoid?), the one with the "donut" or spade-type connector on it. For good measure I put a bunch of silicone caulk on the whole works to protect it from the weather.
I drove around on snowy dirt roads yesterday, maybe my caulk has failed. Not having a garage I guess I'll crawl around in the snow to find out, or wait until things dry out.
Should be an easy fix dan.... first things first...clean the battery terminals and battery cable ends then try to start the truck.
If this does not fix the problem then try running a temporary ground with your jumper cables. attach one of your jumper cables to the neg post on your battery and the other to a good solid engine ground. (don't be affraid to clean off a spot with a wire brush or some sand paper, you want to be sure that you have created a good ground.)
if this seems to fix the problem then you have determined that you need to replace the Negative battery cable. if it soes not fix the problem then you can start checking the starter, solenoid, ignition switch...etc
But for now, start simple. I have had 3 Ford trucks that have fried the Neg battery cable...this is a common issue and an easy fix.

Cool, I'll check the ground issue. I need to get a set of jumper cables anyway.
Of course my truck started fine today. But I hate having it unreliable.
