Just recieved my Super lift 4'' suspension kit....I was so excited till I started to put it on. I started with the rear, I ordered the kit with the leafs instead of blocks....Bad Idea. The new leafs springs look identical to the factory execpt for they have more of an arch, no extra leafs.....Is this right?
I finished the rear and took the jack out, not happy the truck might have gone up an inch....defentally not four!
also there was nothing elese for the sway bar, No new end links or anything, not even new bump-stops.
Started to look at the front part and noticed there was no drop pitman arm...I dont know if this is needed on a 4'' lift or not?
I guess I was wondering if any one had a 4'' super lift and if so how did it turn out.
I don't have a 4" superlift, but a 4.5" edge, and had a 6" full-traction kit before, they both came with a drop pitman arm.. I find it odd that your kit didnt come with one.. I have a spare drop arm left over I'll unload cheap if you need one, but I'd definately contact superlift and see what they have to say..
Thanks locash I'll keep you posted...did you get the leafs pack for the rear or blocks? I was curious I would think that the leaf packs would have more leafs than the stock ones, wouldn't you agree.
I just put on the Superlift 4" lift with tapered blocks to be added to the stock blocks. No pitman arm came with my kit either. According to their website and application guides, their 4" kits do not come with a dropped pitman arm (not needed per Superlift). When you put your rear springs on, did you remove the stock blocks? I believe you should have placed the rear springs on top of the stock blocks in order to raise your truck the 4". Either you get the tapered lift blocks to lift the rear or the rear springs to lift the rear. Stock blocks are still used.
kabcpapc I did leave the stock block, and it still seems the height isnt as high as it should of course I dont have the front lifted cause I was unsure of the pitman arm and I still need a truck to drive, and didnt want to wait till they sent me the pitman arm so i didnt lift the front yet. I still think there should be more leafs in the leaf packs, I mean when you get blocks normally it come with an add-a-leaf too.
I've been around lifted trucks most of my life and almost without exception, lift kits that say they are 4 inch are really 4 inch lift in front, 2 1/2 inch out back. I know this applies to Fords specifically because I've never owned another brand. The reason for the height difference is because the lift kit also works as a leveling kit making the front and back level. Also, in reference to there needing to be more leaves in the spring pack to achieve lift, this is not true. The only thing more leaves accomplish is a stiffer ride than stock and a little more payload capacity. According to tech articles I've seen 4 inches is the most you can get away with without the pitman arm. Your steering components will wear faster without one, but one is not required. Sounds like you got a pretty incomplete basic lift. Seen these before and they seem like a fair deal, reasonable cost, simple install. What you don't get told is that you will need extra parts not included with the kit to make your truck function like factory (sway bar drop brackets, pitman arm, extended bump stops etc.) Superlift kits almost always are a piecemeal affair because the company likes to let the customer customize their lift with just the parts they require. I saw a Rancho lift a year ago with everything: springs front/rear, pitman arm, swaybar relocators, extended brake lines, exteded bump stops, RS 9000 adjustable shocks and urethane bushings all around for $799 which I thought was a bargain, plus it was gas/diesel.
The one thing superlift sells that I would recommend looking at with a lifted truck is their Superrunner steering system. Takes a lot of stress off tie rods and steering box even without pitman arm.
Thanks Pstroke73 thats answers alot..one thing I did forget to mention is the shocks, they are compresed all the way, I thought shocks were susposed to be springy, like when i took the old ones off they extended to there full length. The new ones are just compresed..is there something I need to do prior to installing them.
As far as the shocks are concerned, yours are probably of the oil filled type, not a pressurized design. Just pull them apart and bolt them on.. As far as the leafs are concerned, it is more the arc of the spring that determines ride height, not the number of leafs in the spring pack. After the horrible ride I had after installing the full-traction 6" all-spring lift kit on my last superduty, I elected to do the block/spring hanger method from donohue this time around (with external resevoir fox shocks), and it rides nice and smooth, although I'm sure the new leaf spring packs will better handle towing..
If you end up wanting the drop pitman arm, just let me know..
