major timing problem, HELP
89 351- pulled heads, installed new timing chain and sprockets, made sure everything went back together correctly, new wires installed correctly, piston on TDC compression, then rotor on #1 wire. Will not start!! I've got fuel in the rails, spark at the plugs. Sprayed either to make sure it wasnt fuel not going through injectors and FLAMES blew back out the throtle body. Got my eye brows, lashes and hair pretty good. What the heck is going on here?

Go back through the timing setup again. If it is backfiring thru the intake then the plug is firing when the intake valve is open.
Re-check: #1 Cylinder at top of Compression Stroke; Rotar pointing at #1; Plug Wiring correct for firing order.
It should start up fine with no advance. Once you get it running thenyou can set the timing with a light.
