okay, i bought a supposed powertrax locker off ebay (possible 1st mistake). I have an 8.8 in my truck with an open diff before the install. The locker came in a L/S carrier with bearings and everything on it. All installed. So not realizing that it came in a l/s carrier, i tried to put the locker in my open diff, but it wouldnt fit, so i wound up putting it back in the l/s carrier, and just changing my carriers around. I just put the ring gear (3.55 gears) on the l/s carrier, installed everything, and put the rear drums back on, when putting the rear left drum on, i noticed that it was difficult to get on. Well, i took it for a test drive, and driving the truck, the locker worked. Unlocked around corners, locked up for some nice 2 wheel brake stands. Then i started to notice the truck would jerk so hard it shook the truck. SO i took it back home, removed the locker, and reinstalled it, also, adjusted teh wheel drum so it wasnt so tight.
took it out for a drive and it didnt do it again, but now its acting up. It would all of a sudden make a really big bang, that would jerk the truck. It does this jerk pretty much at random. on the highway going 55 (scary), or in town taking off from a stop. I dont know what it is, and really like to know. Also, i was taking off from a stop sign, gave it gas, and it just sounded like my engine exploded, gears grinding, the truck wouldnt go anywhere, but i could still hear what sounded like a slight grinding. So i put it in neutral, then back in drive, and it took off, only to do it again, so i am completely stopped in the middle of an itersection, and i have to put it in neutral again, then back in drive, and the truck took off, and hasent done it since. IT still jerks, but at random. Otherwise the locker is quiet, and effective. I'm almsot wondering if i didnt leave somthing in the diff, like a socket, because thats almost what its like, but i'd like to think it would have eaten up the socket by now, or whatever was in there.
