My friend just showed me an article in one of his Ford magazines about a guy with over a million miles on his 86 F-150. It said his daily commute is 360 miles. We sat there at work trying to think how someone can drive 180 miles to work every day. Or does he drive all day in his truck? What do you guys think? The article didn't say what he did for a living. It did say he is from Garysburg, NC. Anyone out ther put anywhere near that many miles on their vehicle daily?
I drive about 840 miles per week - I live in Kentucky and work in Maryland. I drive to Md, usually on Wednesday...that's 600 miles. Then I drive 40 miles daily for 6 days, before returning to Kentucky the following Wednesday. My schedule is 6 on/8 off - working my 80 hours for the two weeks in 6 days. So, I'm nowhere close to 360 miles in a day, but I do have a strange schedule by most standards.
360 miles or 5-6 hours just to commute to work seems like it is a little unreasonable, but you never know. If he did that, assuming a regular 8-9 hour day, that guy would have no time for anything, unless he doesn't sleep.
I put somewhere over 50,000 miles on my Bronco last year. 30 mile commute a day, then anywhere from 5-500 miles a day at work (real estate). After giving me so much $/mile for gas, they finally just bought me a Nissan. Bronco has original C6 and 2nd 302, 216,000 miles total I think.
Of course, the guy prolly didn't work 7 days a week. Therefore,
assuming 5 days /week thru the year= 260 days / year.
2778 days/ 260= 10.68 years.
I wonder what kind of mileage he got?
I just bought a beater (94 Escort) for $500 that I plan on driving 100 miles each way to work as soon as I start the new job- just so I won't put 50K/ year on my truck. (And with the gas mileage diff, it'll pay for itself several times over.)
