Greetings
I have a 1993 300 CI Inline Six with 182,000 miles. Recently the oil pressure gauge went low and the engine began to clatter so I put a mechanical gauge in the sending unit hole and it showed zero pressure. I pulled the pan and installed a new oil pump, pickup tube and new rod bearings. The crank journals looked good and were about a half a thousanth under original specs. Upon restart the pressure now varies wildly, from 5 to 10 psi at idle 20 to 40 at fast idle (2000 RPM?) and 30 to 50 at about 3000 rpm. It goes up and down regularly. What gives?
Thanks, Paul
What I mean is the pressure varies while the RPM is being held steady. That seems odd to me. I haven't put the sending unit back in yet and I wonder if I would even see it there.
