Anyone know for sure when Ford went to the big, square cab-over? Probably showing my age here, but I believe that it must have been in '57. Also, I seem to remember Mack using these early cabs with the Mack running gear in them for a few years. Lastly, is there a group devoted to Ford cab-overs? Obviously, it could not be nearly as good as FTE...
Yes, the c-series started in 1957, and yes, Mack used the cabs for a few years. I've also seen a few as firetrucks with American LaFrance emblems on them.
There was another, lower production, hence less-known, cabover that Ford made in the '60's. The N series truck. There is a lady out of Colorado that has a rather informative website out there on these trucks and if I'm not mistaken she has her '56 F-100 showcased on this site. I'll put up a picture of one of these trucks in my gallery. My dad and I have been trying to buy this one but it's trying to ellude us... Check my gallery.
