I guess it depends in what part of the world you learned to speak english. Growing up in Scotland I always pronounced either as eyether and neither as nyether.

The only difference between a "friend" and a "fiend" is the r. Or if you're a pirate, maybe it's an "Arrrrrrrrrr".

What about a freightload of beer steins? Neither of those words have a 'c' in them!
You know, now that I think about it, that rule is pretty silly... or should I say seilly?
