Accelerator quit on freeway
Gotta question hopefully someone can answer for me. i was drivin on the freeway with cruise control on and suddenly cruise control quit i started slowin down and the accelerator wouldnt work. the truck is still on the freeway and i cant start it. i've heard that it might be a cable from the throttle body that broke. it wont rev when trying to start also. Any help on what it could be and how to fix it would be great. thanks a lot

Is the cable still connected at the Injection pump. The accelerator and the cruise are held on by clip which goes over a ball attached to the IP fuel lever so check that out.
Also check under the dash at the cable/pedal connection coming through the firewall if the cable end broke here use a small pair of visegrips on the cable to get you home.

it wont crank and fire at all ?? or it just idles ? Could be the linkage is off or the ball fell off the linkage arm on the injection pump. The throttle cable and the cruise cable become one connection at the injection pump. Or, the a fuse blew out and shut the engine down from a short in a wire.

well first off, which motor do you have? the 6.9 or the 7.3? early non-turbo models have a problem with the fuel lines depressurizing while running. i had a similair problem which was pinpointed to the fuel filter leaking at various times. also check the linkage on the injector pump. have someone push the throttle down and check to see if the pump accelerator moves properly. also check to see if you have any air in the fuel lines. early IH diesels have the fuel filter located topside of the motor and have a air bleed valve on them. let me know if this helps or not.
