Never seen this before - water pump
What do they mean by that? It probably said that on my water pump too, of course I didn't read it.
This was in a 'Genereal Warning: Automatic belt Tensioners' notice that came with the new pump. It talks about looseness and wear of the tensioner.
"Looseness, side to side movement, roughness and excessive play in the action of the tensioner allows forces to act upon all assemblies on the drive belt, including the water pump. These forces produce damaging effects on the water pump assembly, such as: premature failure of hub to shaft interface, problems with bearings and seal and even fracturing of metal parts."
Since all my damage was caused by the hub walking of off the water pump shaft and I really can't find a cause I just added the idler and pulley the the replacement list. The idler was worn and had small flats on it like the plastic was starting to collapse. Did I solve the problem? I don't know but there ain't nothin' left to replace!
Brian (that what I get for reading instructions)
