Call me what you will, but I am a diesel junkie. I became addicted during my seven years in Caterpillar diesel engine engineering. I have heard that the Ford Ranger could be purchased with a diesel engine during the early years of its product life. I would like to learn as much about these diesels as I can.
I have a 1989 Ford Ranger 4X4, and I would rather have a diesel in it. I am wondering about the potential of the early Ranger diesel engines and what it would take to swap one into my truck. Thanks for any information or help you can offer.
They currently offer a diesel in the ranger in Mexico along with 4 full doors too. I just came back from South Texas and saw a couple different ones while I was there. If you cant find an old diesel maybe you can find one of the newer ones from a wrecked truck or something.
They did in fact offer them in the mid 80's. They were pretty low on power and Ford didn't sell many. They only offered the diesel for a few years. There are a few still around; if you look on ebay there was one for sale a few months ago. Getting parts is pretty tough if not impossible.
So they have the diesels in Mexico now?? And the 4 doors? Well, I'm going in a couple weeks, I'll have to see if I can test drive one. Regardless, I'll atleast take some pictures.
I also would like information about converting a gaz ranger to diesel ranger. I would like to do that on a 4x4 of year 99. With engine is it possible to choose? What is the criteria to choose it? Is it difficult to fit it with transmission?
