CPS Failure Symptoms
I'm trying to anticipate a problem on a 2000 X I just got. What are the usual symptoms that the CPS has failed in a 7.3. Also, where might the engine serial number located or can I just use the VIN number to get a replacement CPS at the Ford dealer? Does Intetrnational sell them cheaper? Appreciate any info on this. Thank you!

I've had the CPS go out twice on my PSD F250. Signs are...the rig quits running. You'll be driving down the road and it'll shut off like someone flipped a light switch. After turning the key a bit it may start up again but you'll be lucky to make it a quarter mile down the road. I'm not sure about the VIN and Serial # for engine ID but International does sell the part for less than Ford. I still don't carry a spare...but I've been meaning to pick one up...for about three years. If you tow it into Ford and they have their way with it the bill will run about 500.00 by the time they do all their diagnostic testing, even if you tell them it's the CPS. The part should run 75 to 100 dollars and it's a 10 min do it yourself install..I think all you need is a 10mm socket.
