I have a 96 ranger 2.3

ok supposed to be at tdc
whats the easiest way to tell if it is on compression or exhaust stroke since there isnt a distributor?

take out number one spark plug and place your finger on the hole and when it's on compression stroke you feel air coming out . if you start it on exhuast stroke you will make LOUD banging noises tell you please stop hurting me.
