LAST EDITED ON 07-Nov-01 AT 07:06 PM (EST)[p]I own a 1993 F-150, 4x4 with a 351W and the E4OD tranny (pretty much stock). I was wondering what all it would take to drop a remanufactured 460 in. I know I will need a new, stronger tranny. But will the stock one do for temporary purposes? Also, do you know about how much it will cost. I plan on building the motor myself and installing everything myself. Thanx alot in advance.

The first thing that pops up when this question is asked is what are your emissions requirements? If there are any then you could drop a 460 of the same year in but then you have to work out the electronic and that would be a project and a half, new mounts, new radiator, more than likely new ignition and a lot of little things. If you are determined then go for it. To be honest since the 351 is already there why not save some money and/ or use the added cost to make a kick but 351. Have you considered a stroked 351 (393). It is not necessarily a costly job and if you added mass air and a cam/ chip some head work then you would have great hp and torque powerplant to drive that 4X4, and you should be able to pass emissions. If you plan on doing most of the work I would say between $2500-3000 and you could have one heck of a motor and I would say that is a high figure depending on who does the machine work/ assembly it could be considerably cheaper. With the 460 efi or carbed you have to factor in a new tranny right from the start cause the existing one will not fit, otherwise build the 351 and drive lightly and the existing tranny could last a while but plan on rebuilding it anyway so it doesn't come as a surprise to you if it should fail. Good luck hope it works out
Thank you! I really appreciate it. I also thought about after building the 351 to heck then add a supercharger or blower plus what you said. Anyways, i thank you once again for your input.

LAST EDITED ON 08-Nov-01 AT 10:57 PM (EST)[p]The 393 is not really a drastic build. You can get the crank form summit for around $500 and you can get pistons which would last forever for about the same so your at $1000 now and to be honest these parts can be purchased elsewhere cheaper. Add a new cam $200 and port work to existing heads minus assembly you are at 1200 port work is different so lets say they find something wrong so your at another 500 so that is 1700 add a chip and your at 1900 oh yeah bore the block 30 so your at what 2000 plus shipping cost not bad. The pistons above are 393 specific but 302 pistons will work there are many so you can save some doe there looking around. It has been said that this should yield between 3-400 hp easy and being a stroker you will have some serious torque as long as you use the right cam. Just a thought, good luck
