Just bought a 77 F-250 4x4 with a 351 or 400. I have a 351 that came out of another Ford. Question will all 351 motors interchange with 400 if not how do you tell the difference? Any book help or practical info would be appreceiated.
Don't you love simple answers? Is it a 351, a 351 or a 351 (M,W, or C)? From Million's answer I get it that if the two engines look alike on the outside -- thermostat location, accessory locations, oil filter housing loaction, valve cover layout, etc then it will swap. If these details look different then no.
From what I know (which is very little). Only a 351m or 400 will interchange. The windsor and cleveland are different than those two. So I guess it depends on what motor you actually have in your truck, and what motor you have to swap it out with.
Nothing to complicated about that.
