i am in the the last part of lifting my truck (6" Revteck) and all i have left to do is pull the pitman arm and steering arm and replace. but i just cant get the darn thing off. i am afraid to beat on it and damage the steering box. has anyone else ahd this problem, or has done this before and could lend me a helping hand? thanks
i put on a 6 inch tuff country lift....i got the pitman arm of with a bearing puller that has 3 teeth on the outside and a bolt in the middle that screws and pulls the arm off...if you put it on the arm and tighten it as far as you can go and then hit the top of the bolt in the center, it will jar it loose and not hurt the steering...make sure you dont let anyone tell you that you should heat it...that will screw ya big time
Pitman arm puller has always worked fine for me. Just a little FYI if you plan on buying or renting one, is that not all pitman arm pullers will fit over the SD pitman arm.
I purchased a pitman arm puller for 9 bucks at a local parts store, it was made by KD tools. I had to grind the opening a bit because our shaft is to large diameter. It came off in 2 min with this tool. For 9 bucks it aint worth renting one!
id suggest jus go buy one .. i think mine was around 15 bucks and it fits the pitman arm fine. also you will have to beat on it with a mini sledge or somethin to make it come loose. like was said before crank the puller down as tight as you can and pound on the bolt, then tighten it some more and itll pop off after a few tries.
