I have a 2000 F250 with a 7.3 Turbodiesel. It has 213,000 miles on it which are mostly highway. I had it in to the dealer for an oil leak and was told there
was not really anything they could do. They said they could replace the pedestal for about $600 but it wouldn't solve the oil leak because the "blowback" outof the tube. Does this sound right to anyone?
No, no it doesn't sound right. It sounds more like extortion than anythng else. I thought I read the other day where somebody had the pedestal rebuilt, but even if they didn't, a brand new pedestal is under $300, and it won't take more than a couple hours max for the tech to replace it, so labor seems way high there.
As far as the "blowback" out of the tube, I can only assume they were talking about the oil leaking from the CAC tubes, this happens because the crank case vent is routed into the turbo...this is easily (and cheaply) remidied by rerouting the CC vapors away from the intake. Do a search for "CCV mod".
HwyDriver I have a 97 psd that Im in the proccess of rebuilding it cracked a piston that created a lot of back pressure and blowed alot of oil out of the turbo pedistal. around the EBPV shaft. I first thought the valve needed resealing but that didnt help. While I was working on it I learned that the pedistal oil drain back port is connected to the crankcase thus letting backpressure blow oil out of ebpv.My truck had 300000 miles when this happend. Take the oil filler cap off when its running and you can tell if you have alot of blowby. Just my experience.
