Hesitation with cold engine
I just put in a newly rebuilt carb on my '86 F350 with the 460 engine.
I also added in a 1 inch phenolic spacer under the carb.
Everything runs. However, when truck is cold and when I stomp on the gas, the engine will hesitate and sometimes die.
Has anyone else encountered a similar problem?
I am wondering if it is due to:
a. The phenolic spacer (condensed fuel)
b. Carb not properly adjusted (I had adjusted idle, fast idle and slightly enriched idle mixture : 1 turn or so of the screw).
The truck also has a fuel return line. Does anyone know if there's a fuel filter in the fuel return T-joint/junction?
Thanks.
Ben
The tee fitting is part of the "hot fuel system". All that is in there is a .090" hole that allows for the fuel to circulate. Could be clogged I guess, but unlikely. You can remove it a blow backwards through it to clean out a screen that is on the inlet. I put an inline clear filter prior to tthat tee to avoid that problem.
I'll check the timing and the T-fitting this weekend.
I am also wondering if there is a problem with the vacuum switch on the thermostat housing. The vacuum line to the distributor connects to that.
