Gettin rid of the F-150 and gettin a turbo diesel same body stlye 92-97 and was wondering what year they started OBD-II on the 7.3 to make it easyer on myself down the road

I'm trying to diagnose a problem on my 97 f250 with an obdII scanner I borrowed from an auto parts store, but it keeps saying it can't communicate with the truck. Any ideas? I assume my truck is obdII compliant.

I purchased a $100 OBD II scanner at Autozone and it said there were no problems found. The truck would not even run!! I have a friend who is a Ford diesel mechanic and he used his Snapon Scantool and found 3 codes. He told me that the cheaper scanners are not compatible with diesel engines. Look on Ebay, you usually can find a good used one for $300-$500 dollars.
