What does it take to go from a runt-sized lug pattern to a 5 and a half pattern on a two-wheel drive 1982 F-100?
PLEASE!
The suspension forum seems to have no answer for me...
This truck came with a V-6 in it, so everything is the reverse of TEXAS - if yu know what I mean...
Is it a ball-joint mounted spindle, for one?
Or is it a king-pin nightmare?
I WOULD like to here that an F-150 to F-350 upgrade calls for the same steering knukle and I-Beams, but I don't know at this point, and scrap yards will sell anything...
If it is like the frames, where there truly IS a difference, and the I-Beems can't support it, I'd like to find out now - not later.
The best change would be to go to the 3/4 ton style with 8 lugs. For the rear end you could either swap in a 8 lug 9 inch from a 3/4 pickup and you'd not only get what you're looking for, but also a lot stronger axle than the standard 8.8 inch. Or you could swap the axles from a 9 inch into the 8.8 inch, providing they have the same length and spline pattern and hub bolt up as the 8.8 inch. Good luck findin those. You could always custom make a pair if you are a good welder or have Currie or some other axle maker make a pair for you. Now for the front end. On my 84 f 150 its 2 wheel drive and has kingpin style front axle. You didnt specify your year? You might be able to find a set of wheel hubs from a 3/4 ton that have the 8 lug pattern and the kingpin style but I think they'd be differnt. Or you could swap in the whole front axle. Either way, it'd be a chore. Why do you need different wheel lug patterns anyhow? Just my 2 sense.
Keep in mind this is comin from a 17 year old.

I don't suppose it would be as easy as swapping the hubs and rotors from an F150 from the same year?
I don't know if the spindles are the same or not, and I'm not sure how you would go about finding out if the spindles were the same.
If someone has a shop manual, is that kind of information in the book?
The wheel bearings are listed the same at autozone for F100 and F150 so you could buy a F150 rotor and if it doesn't fit return it. Or you could buy a parts truck and change I-beams. On the rear the axles should be the same as F150 except the lug pattern just make sure you get ones with the same number of splines
