Is there an economical tool for resurfacing valves and seats? I was thinking of buying a system like we used in highschool(early 80s). The ones I can find are way out of my price range. I just thought since I know how to do the valve job,I might as well do it if the equipment doesnt cost too much.
There are some really cheapy fixtures that you can clamp in a vise, but I would not trust them to be accurate enough.
I would think that you could find an old machine if you look around. I saw an old Sioux machine in our local Bargain Newspaper not too long ago for $400. It included a valve facing machine and a hard seat grinder. For that money I don't know what condition the stuff was in. If you could find something like that you would probably have to buy a few stones and pilots for whatever you work on.
I have used seat cutters from this company. I have also used their valve refacing tool. It does a pretty good job. I prefer my old Sioux valve refacing machine, but I have gotten very good results with their "Gizmatic" valve refacer. Don't let the name fool you. These folks make a high quality product.
