i have a 1991 F-250 that i use for plowing. i replaced the ball joints and tie rod ends back in October, i noticed plowing the other night a squeking coming from the front while in 4-wheel drive. it was there going down the road out of 4-wheel drive though the hubs locked in. Today i unlocked the hubs and the noise was still there. i thought it was the u-joints in the rear but after replacing those in the rear shaft it still there. where would it be coming from??
You Maybe Got A Dry Roller Cage Bearing The Axle Works On In The
Front Hub . Then When You Pull It Apart You Might See The Dust Seal
Is Shot As Well . Good Time To Grease Bearings And Replace Seals
And Check Front Axle U Joint .
i thought that too but when i did the ball joints i cleaned the bearing and regreased them while replacing the inner seals. hopfully i'll be able to get it apart soon, thanks for the input
well i figured it out. Went to pull it apart today but was stalled when a friend called asking if i could pick up a motor for him. well i got about half way there when the left bearings almost seized up in the front left wheel. i managed to get to a family memeber house about 6 miles. so now i'll have to tear into it tomorrow i dont think it'll be good
thats about what it will be. i did get part of it apart (lock out off) and things arent looking good. lockout is toast, outer bearing is toast and thats as far as i got. not good, on my part
I got done servicing my 76 1/2 ton today . The drivers side was the squeaky
one . Dust seal was shot , fine o-ring seal wasn't there at all for the roller cage
bearing . Replaced one cross joint . Other side just needed renew kit n grease.
Tomorrow I add oil and see what leaks or doesnt leak .
