Hard Reverse

I just recently purchased a 1976 F100 with a 302 . When I purchased it the owner stated it needed new motor mounts. When you put it in gear the engine would jump. I replaced the motor mounts and putting it into drive is fine. But when I put it into reverse I still get this very hard shift. The tranny seems to shift fine. but that hard shift has me concerned. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

Chuck

Try putting it in low, then reverse. This should cure that. It could be idling too high or you just have a very tight torque converter.

Thanks for the replies, I will try both of those tomorrow, I never thought of the tranny mount. I will try the low to reverse as well. The motor mounts were shot so they needed replacing, in hind sight sure wish I would have did the tranny one at the same time. Thanks for the help.

This may also be worn out ring and pinion. When you put it into reverse, there may be play in the driveline, and when it catches is when you feel it.
