9 Inch advice
I have a 82 f150 with a Ford 9 inch rear end. I have been having problems lately with the truck seeming to jerk around corners. I thought the problem was a bad bushinf up front. This weekend the truck really started to jerk and make noise. I realized too late the noise was from the rear end.
I have the truck on stands and if I spin the passenger tire, everything is fairly tight. On the other hand the driver side tire will spin almost 3/4 of the way before a loud clunk from the diff and then the other tire starts to spin. The rear end is supposed to be a 2.73 open carrier (I don't believe trac lock was offered on the 2.73).
I understand I may have been lucky and only damaged the spider gears, does this sound plausible. I've also read information that the 2.73 is different from other 9 inch rear ends and requires different parts. Is there any truth to this.
I also have a question about the axle seals. When I pulled the axle the seals came with the axle. They seem to be stuck between the axle bearing and the plate which bolts to the housing ? Will they pull over the bearing. I know I should replace them, but is there a way other then removing the bearings ?
Finally any place in Canada that carries parts for the Ford 9 inch. Ford doesn't carry them anymore and my local NAPA doesn't deal in Diffs ?
