Spare tire "winch"

I have a 2001 F250. The spare tire winch has just gone out. It won't go up or down

Has anyone else had this problem?

Does anybody have a spare that they would sell?

I had the same trouble on a 2000 I had. Only used it twice. My truck was still under warranty so Ford replaced the part and I installed. My belief is that if you try to over crank it when raising and securing the tire it becomes a one time use item. Just crank it up till the tire makes contact,and not any more for good measure.

If the newer ones are like my old 94 explorer the cabel gets stuck if you wind it up to tight. It was about $50 for a new one.

I took mine apart. Drilled out the rivets, rewound the cable and installed bolts still works good. There is a reel brake inside and it get loose, letting the cable jam.
