Tire size swap

Hey there. I have an old '79 F100 that I rarely drive these days. It really needs a new set of tires. Currently I've got 31X10.5X15 on it now. I found someone selling a set of five (which is good -my spare is bald too) 235X75X15. I'm on a student budget, so cheap - nearly new tires are a good thing. Everything being perfect, how will the tires size up? I think the 235X75 are about an inch and a half or so smaller in diameter. Any tradeoffs (capacity/road feel) that I should know about? The speedo has been out of cal for years. I have no clue of brand. I think wear (yeah they're used) is around three weeks of use. TIA

The 235/75-15's are about 29" tall. The speedometer will likey still be off with the 235's, but should be closer than it is with the 31's. Engine rpms will be slightly higher with the shorter tires. The tires will have their load capacities stated on the sidewalls so you can compare the two kinds. If the tires are 'LT' (light truck) rated rather than 'P' (passenger car) rated, they should ride and handle fine on your pickup, just pump up the rears to max pressure when you have alot of weight in the back of the truck. Otherwise, about 75% of max is usually fine.
