Getting ready to add power steering
I searched but didn't find exactly what I was looking for. I have a 77 F150 straight 6 2wd. I got the power steering box from a 78 2wd and I don't know what motor it had but I am confident that my box will bolt in. I got the lines and factory cooler from a 79 as well as the pump and pump mounting bracket. My question is about the pump mounting bracket, it came from either a 351 or a 302 V8 and I have a straight six, the bracket was a 2 piece unit with one piece connecting the pump to the water pump housing and the other bracket reinforcing the bracket by connecting the driver's side head to the main bracket, I know the reinforcement bracket won't work but will the main bracket work? If not can it be modified by just drilling a few holes? The box has about 1 degree of free play and doesn't appear to be leaking any fluid, so I think it should be ok, and all of the risidual fluid was clean so I think the pump should be good as well. Am I missing anything here? So far my total cost is $40 and about 1.5 hours of my time.

Not sure on the bracket, you'll probably have to have brackets for a I6. You will also need a different steering column as the power steering requires a shorter column. And don't forget the pulleys, some engines need different pulleys to accomodate another belt.

The column is shorter, is there anyway to make the current column work? Sounds like another trip to the yard. My motor came from an 80 van that had all the accessories so it has the right pulley, unfortunately I didn't keep the brackets. Does anyone have any pics of the straight six power steering brackets? Thanks
