Guys, I have a question about flow masters on a pick-up. If you keep your stock single exhaust but change out the stock muffler for a flow master will it make it much louder depending on 40 or50 series? and what about performance and fuel mileage? or is it better to go with summit's turbo muffler duel exhaust ? This is for a 98 F150 4.6ltr. Looking for a good sound, not super loud. Thanks in advance, Dan
If you put just a flowmaster muffler on you will get good sound. But it basically comes down to opinion, so go to flowmastermufflers.com, they have sound clips of all the different mufflersls and combos. I dont think you should expect much anything performance wise if you get strictly a muffler. I can't help you with summit's turbo muffler duel exhaust system, but I have the Force II system, daul exhaust system, from flowmaster. I am very happy with it. Sounds great, not too loud when you're cruising but when you get on it, it demands attention. Hope this helps.
When I replaced my exhaust, from the cats back, I went with a Flowmaster 50 series from a Dynoflow. The resonation is ok and not too loud when traveling at highway speeds. The shop I used let me try out the 40 series, it was just too loud for my taste. It will not give you a "seat of the pants" difference but, it sounds very nice. My opinion, stay with a Flowmaster 50 series or, if you like it a bit quieter, the Dynoflow has a nice sound and is a bit more quiet than the 50 series Flowmaster. If you want quiet, then go with the Flowmaster 70 series.
I have a Flowmaster muffler on my 97 F-150 w/4.6 and it sounds great....not loud...nice and mellow. But you can hear it if you get on it....but not like glasspacks. The one I have splits into two outlets. It may be a 50 series because I told the guys at the muffler shop that I did not want a loud exhaust. I wanted low and mellow.
As far as performance...I see no difference.
I have the Flowmaster on mine. The shop that installed it, had never put it on a truck before, but he liked it so much he was going to put a flowmaster on his truck.
Low tone rumble, nice sound.
