Hi just woundering if anybody can tell me what kind of mpg they are getting when pulling a 5th wheel that has a #of 10,000 or so with a F250 2003 PSD with 3.73 gears and i know that we all dont get the same but i was going on a arverage.
I get 9-10 mpg with the setup in my sig running pretty hard with the traffic. Gross weight is 23,000#. Slowing down would increase the mpg but this truck just runs so well that I like to put the miles behind me as much as possible.
My 5ver weighs 14,500#.

Reason: added trailer wt.
I got 8.5 to 9.5 on a 99 with PSD and 3.73, added Banks Stinger +, upped milage to 10 to 11. Speed is around 65 on interstates in midwest and a trip to Yorktown, VA and DC last summer. The new milage includes some mountain pulling in VA, KY, & PA. The real test is this summer. Going Durango, Aspen, and Winter Park, CO. Home base is NW IL.
Pulling a 30' Dutchmen 5th wheel at 12'3" high (that's one big air dam), at about 9K max weight on trailer and 1500 on hitch.
I also get 17 to 19 running empty at 70 to 75 on interstates.
With my '03 cc 6.0 6 spd 3.73's towing an 8000# tt around New England I get 14mpg. The truck has a Banks exhoust and Predator tuner (in the tow setting).
Runs cool and strong. 75 mph up long hills passing tuner cars! 17-19 mpg commuting.

Any of you guys know how much difference there is in fuel mileage between 1 ton Ford diesel and the 1 ton Dodge diesel, (newer trucks). I know that my 99' F-350 generally gets between 10 & 12 MPG towing. Was curious what the cummins might be getting. I know that the guy I was talking to used to sell Fords and is now selling Dodge trucks and is probably favoring Dodges now To make a sale but he said that the newer dodges are getting an average of 14 MPG towing and the Fords are getting an average of 10MPG towing. Any other confirmed truth to this?
I can't speak directly about the 1 ton versions but the following might be interesting to you. f250 6.0 psd crew cab lbed and dodge 2500 supercab lbed cummins diesel towed identical 11500 loads 1500 miles. We traveled together and averaged about 65mph. My ford averaged 9mpg the cummins just over 10. My truck was brand new the dodge was about 2 years old I think.

Where the load identical? Same height, weight and size? I pull a 13FT height 5th wheel and getting the same 9 mpg. Also what gears did the F250 have and do you know the current Flash it has?
did a tad over 25,000 miles towing on the 2003 7.3, 3:73 rear end, crew cab and averaged 12.7 mpg,, down the road we were right at 20,000 lbs according to the J Scales for truck and fiver,,
new 2005 best so far is getting close to the 11 mpg,,

Reason: spelling error
the loads where identical 35 foot sailboats and trailers. my f250 6.0 had a 3.73 rear. My truck was built in november 2004. I don't specifically know what flash it has and hope I never have reason to find out! I get reasonably good mileage otherwise-14-18 -depending on how heavy my foot is.
