Alright.. I've got my new motor, 350, factory 4bbl from a 1986 suburban, and new trans too (700r4). These are going into my 1980 malibu. Who here knows anything about this swap? I am going to need some advice as I think it could happen as early as next week... The motor only has ~50k on it as does the trans. The bearings need replaced in the motor, but we think that was from a factory problem with the oil holes in the crank. So thurs I'll be at the parts store getting parts... Hopefully have have the motor back together buy thurs. eve.
I'm not exactly sure of the specifics on the 700R4 except that is has a lock-up torque converter that you will either have to 'by-pass' or remove or figure how to hook-up. Otherwise, it is my understanding that transmission damage/failure is going to be just ahead.
Another course that might be less headaches is the Turbo 350 or the 400.
