Is there any reason at all why I can't build a set of exhaust headers for my 7.3 idi? If there isn't, then i have a plan on how to put a turbo on my plain jane turbo. I am just in the process of gathering information right now. All the help i can get is appreciated.

The factory exhaust manifolds are satisfactory in all aspects (maybe a little too heavy) and I dont recomend replacing them. the factory cylinder-to-turbo exhaust set-up is also good in inside diameter because it is proper for maintaining exhaust velocity in order to allow the turbo to spool up and to reduce turbo lag.

Factory turbo is all you need if you add an ATS Turbo Downpipe and a 3" or larger exhaust system all the way back. It will add around 30-50 hp. You do not need a top of the line turbo on these trucks due to their compression ratio, they can't take over 17psi safely-but I recommend 12-15 psi tops...
