I recently bought a 72 f100 4x4 with the 300 i6 in it. All i know about this engine is that its bullet proof. We have one in a 68 f100 and i have beat the crap out of it and it never seems to die. Anyway, can you guys give me some info on it, is there any books on it, what is the best years for it, etc? I havnt actualy been able to drive the truck yet since i live 3 hours from where it is. My dad went and picked it up for me. he said it runs realy good and it has some aluminum intake with a 2brl carb on it.
Thanks any info would be great.
Read through the first couple of threads on this site for the sixes. It sounds like you've got a good one that has a good mod to it already. These motors aren't meant to spin hard and the heads restrict you anyway.
I'd run it as is for a while, and pick up a good manual. I have a Haynes, others say Haynes isn't that great. Mine has the specs and "story" on the motor. Note my manual is for the van itself, and just has a chapter or two on the motors.
Keep oil in it and short shift it and you'll be happy.
