Ok, I'm in the middle of putting new Bilstein shocks on my truck. I finish the fronts, and go to lower the spare tire down to make it easier to get to the top bolts of the rear shocks. I slide the little "hooked" end of the bar provided by Ford into the hole and nothing. I've spun it both ways, pushed hard, not hard. It' doesn't seem to catch on anything. I'm the second owner of my 02 PSD so the guy before me may have stripped it out. How would you guys go about lowering the tire if it's stripped?

There should be a key (similiar to lug nut lock) in the glove box that will fit on the end of the hooked end of the extension tube, this should match up and allow the tire to lowered. I ran into this exact thing when I was installing my 5" exhaust. Hope this helps.

I'll go try it right now. Thanks for the info. When I read the book I thought that key was only needed if the spare had a lock on it. Of course, me being me, I looked at the hole and didn't see any kind of lock so I just stuck it in there and it didn't work. Thanks again.

Of course it worked. Thanks again. Hey, I never claimed to be the sharpest tack in the box.
Believe me.... I have my moments as well Until I found the key I was contemplating many different ways of getting that tire out of there Just goes to show that sun even shines on a dog's butt occassionally. I'm glad I could help.
