Watts?

hey guys, long time no posteth, too busy with school i guess, but i did have a cool question for the forum,

why is it with 2.3 DIS, with a dead battery, and manual transmittion, can it NOT jumpstart? I've had this little dillema with both my old 89 and now my 94 ranger, and from an absolute dead battery, got her rolling down a long, steep hill, hit like 40Km/h, pop it in 2nd, and against the engine i go till i stop. no fire

nothing.

why doesnt the alternator give enough amps to fire the coils/computer/injectors?

lala

p.s. really glad to be posting again guys

I think that I remember reading Years ago that an alternator reqiired a voltage input of some degree (even low) before it would generate voltage. I think that any Auto parts house that tests alternator could confirm this.

Yep, there has to be some minimal amount of battery voltage for the alternator to function.

However, if the battery is completely dead then roll starting won't work either because the EEC and igintion system require a certain amount of voltage to work properly as well. Only a magneto will work with no battery voltage at all.
