Engine Flush

I would like to know what you think about FLUSHING your engine out to clean the oil pan and system?

I always heard not too, because it will eat the inside of your engine up!

flushing

If you maintain a regular service schedule and allow your engine to operate at normal temps, flushing is not needed.

Flushing is only needed by people who drive short distances and the engine does not run at operating temps for extended times

Depends, if you buy a used vehicle you never know what maintenance was done. If it seems really nasty here is what I do.

Put a quart of either deisel or kerosene in with the oil. It will de-gunk the inside of the motor, but DON"T RUN IT LONG! It will cause excessive wear if you do.

This is also a great fix for ticking lifters.

How long would you run your engine with deisel or kerosene in it, 5, 10 or 15 mintures, I take this is what you ment.

What do you think of GUNK 5 mintue flush?

Why I am asking this question is when I changed my oil it samed like there may be something in the pan because the oil flow than stop and than went like hell again. Just like something got in the wayof the drain hole.

You run the motor for ruffly around 5 minutes with the flush in there and right afterward drain the oil. Dont go drive any were with this stuff in your motor just idle the motor with it.

that engine flush always made me alittle nervous, after you run you motor with it in there the oil that came out was like water. the only reason I decided to use it was I bought it at the ford dealer. my Dad use to run a quart of transmission fluid in his truck for a couple of days pryer to changing the oil, he use to have a sticky lifter problem in his 76 390, the fastest he would ever drive that thing was like 40 mph, the trans fluid use to clear up those ticky lifters

I wouldn't run it too long, but it isn't like it is acid or anything. We usually put it in at the gas station, drive home, and then change the oil right away before all the dirt has a chance to settle.

But..be warned! If any big chunks get knocked loose they can clog the pick up for the oil pump, that would be bad. But that hasen't happened to me yet.....

I put a quart of Reslone in a 1963 Falcon Sedan Delivery with a 170 six. Ran it just a few minutes. Resulted in a lifter/rocker ticking AFTERWARD. Must have been full of sludge and knocked it into circulation and did damage in short order. The filter can be overwhelmed quickly if the engine is so crappy inside. Maybe OTIS ELEVATOR CO. in L.A. did not do much for their fleet maintenance back then! They were the orig. owner. Wish I still had the SD.
I have been very cautious since then. Have used only a few oz. per oil change in vehicles. OK so far. Nowdays the oils and filters are much superior. The
Reslone, ATF, and Marval Mystery Oil are high detergent low wt. oils.
Just be careful. You probably don't even need to do any of this if you use good oil and change O&F regularly.
