I have owned lots of fords in my car driving years including a 71 pantera, 66 ranchero, 65 fairlane, 56 fairlain, 68 cougar gt, and most recently a 73 bronco that I just sold a few months ago. I have been looking for an older p/u and have come across a few in my neck of the woods but I was wondering what the difference is between the models as I have'nt had any ford p/u trucks. I just found a 71 custom that has the potential to be a solid truck, it has the chrome trim down the side of the body, 302, 3 on the tree (not sure if it has the pull *** overdrive yet-hopfully it does), ect. I have also been looking at a camper special and I assume that the camper special has the beefed up suspension. So what is the difference between say a custom, custom special, custom sport, camper special ect. Any descriptive info would be appreciated including trim options, ect. Please point me to any resources that may be available on-line or in book form.
Thanks.
Through 69, the only separate model designation was Ranger, but beginning in 1970, the base model was Custom, then Sport Custom, Ranger, and Ranger XLT. Each move up added equipment.
The base Custom had no bodyside moldings. The Sport Custom had lower moldings similar to the 67-69 Ranger and a tailgate insert. The upper molding was optional on both the Custom and Sport Custom. The Ranger had a wide upper molding and a larger tailgate cover. The XLT had both upper and lower moldings and a woodgrain molding covering most of the tailgate.
