My 95 F-150 6 cyl is dumping gas from the rear tank to the front. Even if the front tank is EMPTY, it is pouring out on the ground, coming out of the filler neck.
The dealer sold me a "reservoir" (something that controls the flow between tanks and is 'supposed' to be fastened to the frame, close to the front floor board) even after I told him this truck didn't have one. Anyway, I pay dearly for this part, get home and yeah, guess what, this truck doesn't have one.
This was a recall item on my '93 F150 also. Reports of it causing fires. I would check the internet for a recall on your truck. If there is one, I would go back to that dealer and demand a refund and the correct recall repairs. I took mine to the dealer and they did the work without question at no charge.
Thanks for the input. I checked and there is no recall on the 95's. I also have a 93 and remember taking it in for a recall on some part...guess this was it.
I checked with 3 dealers and all said no to a recall.
I found another post where everyone says its the fuel pump assembly in the tank that is overflowing.
A 1995 truck does not have a "valve assembly". That design went away in 1989. It was replaced by a symmetric arrangement in which each tank has a high pressure pump, a one-way check valve in the supply line, and a shuttle valve in the return line.
Sounds like the same problem i had. While running on the rear tank fuel is returned to both tanks. I thought my gas mileage had gone to hell but when i switched to the fron tank low and behold there was my gas.
The problem is as follows.
When running on the front tank the excess gas is being returned to the front tank the only problem is the check valve is stuck on the rear pump assembly so gas is being returned to both tanks.
Cure..
If running on the front tank and gas is being returned to the rear, replace the rear pump assembly.
If running on the rear tank and gas is being returned to the front tank replace the front pump assembly.
